This past Tuesday (11/30), I was named Marketing/MARCOM Leader of the Year at the PR News PR People Awards in Washington, DC. These awards recognize leaders of PR and Marketing programs judged to be best-in-class. I am obviously honored and humbled, but most of all, I want to share what's made our efforts worthy of such accolades.

Striking Trends in Digital Content Consumption
Setting the stage for converged mirasol display-enabled devices
Last week found the mirasol displays team in Chicago for the Magazine Publishers Association’s American Magazine Conference 2010. But no sooner did we set foot at the conference than the MPA announced an addendum to its name: The Association of Magazine Media. For an organization centered on publishing to abandon the word “publishers” and adopt “media,” is an important industry acknowledgement around the value of content across platforms and mediums.
Displays Getting Touchy
I’m back to answer the questions about mirasol® displays that keep you up at night. Tuesday we addressed questions about how “front-light” technology enables users to view mirasol displays in conditions with little or no light. Now it’s time to get in “touch” with mirasol’s sensitive side.
Shedding Light on a Solar Eclipse
There are a few questions we’re asked again and again about our technology. We hear these questions from folks visiting our website, at tradeshows (like SID, which we’ll talk about in a bit) and from you, our faithful readers. Over the next couple days, I’ll be offering some answers to a couple of these astute and very frequent lines of questioning.
Are e-readers and tablets converging? Consensus is that there is no consensus.
Lately, the e-reader industry has been attacked on all sides, by both pundits and new products — set to render these single-function devices obsolete.
Omnimedia as a Lifestyle
The concept of “omnimedia” is becoming increasingly relevant with the convergence of personal computing and mobile technology. I blame this trend, primarily, for my recent bicoastal lifestyle (bi-coastal, that is, not bi-polar). I didn’t expect, however, to encounter the living, breathing manifestation of this concept — but that’s exactly what happened.
Advertising on Tablets/e-Readers
A few days ago, I attended and spoke at the “Dimensional to Digital: Managing from Augmented Reality to Tablets” meeting, organized by the Magazine Publishers of America. At the event, John Squires (former Time, Inc. executive) announced that he was ceding his current role as interim managing director of Next Issue Media to Morgan Guenther (former president of TiVo), who was named permanent CEO.
What do butterflies, displays and an elementary school have in common?
You may recall a previous blog from Jim Cathey (Qualcomm MEMS Technologies) that touched on how mirasol displays are biomimetic (that is, technology inspired by observing natural processes). In short, our displays create color in almost exactly the same way color is produced in some butterfly wings. This biomimetic piece of the puzzle is more than just an interesting tidbit or marketing tool.
Which came first: the publisher or the advertiser? Following the ereader money trail.
In my last post, I talked about how magazines and newspaper publishers are looking for more capabilities in devices than just black and white and/or static content. I talked about how publishers want a technology that takes reading to the next level, indeed, enables a more interactive experience.
