James Cathey
VP of Business Development
James Cathey is vice president of business development for Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc. (QMT). In this role, Cathey cultivates new revenue opportunities, and also oversees applications engineering, technical product marketing, product management and marketing communications worldwide. Under his leadership, QMT's innovative mirasol display has transitioned from a little-known, emerging display technology to an award-winning product incorporated in a diverse portfolio of mobile devices slated for global markets.
A 17-year technology industry veteran, Cathey has extensive experience in the creation, implementation and management of domestic and international market strategies for advanced display technologies, semiconductors and software. Prior to joining QMT, Cathey served as a senior executive at display companies including Micron Technology and MicroDisplay, as well as the head of Investor Relations for PixTech. He has also provided strategic business consulting services to companies such as DuPont Display, DuPont PhotoMask and Applied Materials.
Cathey is a recognized expert in the display sector, with experience spanning multiple display technologies such as field emission display (FED), liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS), organic light-emitting diode (OLED) and liquid crystal display (LCD). He has been a featured speaker at a number of conferences, including the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Innovations State, Society for Information Display (SID) Display Week, Display Applications Conference, Korea Display Conference, DisplaySearch Taiwan FPD International, DisplaySearch US FPD, Commnexus Mobile SIG, and also delivered the keynote address at Portable Design Conference.
Cathey is a frequent contributor to global publications, and has been interviewed and quoted by press - including The New York Times and Wall Street Journal - as a mobility and components visionary. QMT\\\'s mirasol display technology has also recently been featured in PC Magazine as a Technical Excellence Award winner, and was also selected as a finalist for the CES Innovation Awards and GSMA Global Mobile Awards. Cathey earned a bachelor's of business administration in marketing from Boise State University. He also holds four patents and is a member of the Society for Information Display (SID).
